An introduction and off to New York

Since I’ll be updating the blog while Kathy (who I’ll refer to as Conk from now on; it’s what I’ve always called her, and the only name my Grandmother knew her by) is recovering from surgery, she urged me to write a pre-op blog post to introduce myself. And to make sure that I didn’t encounter any technical difficulties, esp since my first few unsuccessful attempts to sign up to follow the blog didn’t inspire confidence. So Conk, if you’re reading this, you have one less thing to worry about.

This is my third time accompanying Conk during her hospital stays. There was Christmas in London in 2007, spent in St Thomas’ hospital by the Thames across from Big Ben. And a scary extra 2 weeks in Frankfurt at a hospital beside the Main in September 2016. New York City is the first trip built around a planned hospitalization, but like the first two, she’ll have a great view of a river, this time the Hudson.

  1. Hope all is well. You are known as Conk, and when I was young I couldn’t pronounce Connie so I said Conkie. My family called me Conkie!
    Can’t wait until you’re back with Chickpea. Best wishes.

Bless you, Peg, for always being there for Conk & her medical “escapades.” No doubt we’ll all be white-knuckling it for the next few days, wondering how she’s doing, so please keep us posted, even with the comparatively mundane aspects. Congrats on mastering the Blog entries! We’re indeed indebted to you! Good luck & best wishes to all of you!

      3. Countdown from 35 mins. to O.R. time. Jeece, even MY blood pressure is up. Hope you’re on sedatives, and IV ones at that! Great idea to write a book about hospitals around the world! Hope Columbia is treating you well & would come in somewhere near the top, but I believe our nursing care is vastly inferior to other countries’, e.g. England, but that’s only when you FINALLY get accepted into hospital for your life-saving surgery, thanks to the NHS. I’m afraid we just have to face the fact that being in the hospital anywhere REALLY SUCKS! Thinking of you & will be all day. You’re a trooper! You’ll do splendidly. “Just lie back and think of England!”. 🤗🤗❤️❤️🤗🤗❤️❤️🤗

  11. Thanks for the update Peg! I’ve been praying for Kathy since she and I talked about her upcoming surgery at our RPCS reunion in April. I know you all will be getting settled in NYC today in prep for tomorrow’s surgery and finally repairing her loving, big and magnificent heart ❤️. Praying that everything goes smoothly, for guidance, wisdom and critical thinking for Dr Smith and the surgical team, the ICU team and that Kathy and you feel a calmness and peace that surpasses all understanding.
